Photographing the street dogs was the hardest part of this experience; it had a profound effect on me. It was incredibly heartbreaking and devastating to see these dogs suffering so severely on the streets. There is little to no regard for these animals. The level of cruelty it nothing like we see here, it’s much, much worse. “The truth is that local governments usually have limited funds to contribute to a humane solution. Instead, their response is often to round up stray animals and destroy them by electrocution, drowning, or worse. This inhumane “fix” not only fails to solve the underlying problem, but also results in negative publicity and lingering stigma” ( CANDi International ).
There are a limited amount of rescue groups and volunteers who work to save these dogs. These rescue groups need our help to save these dogs.
I cried more tears than you can imagine after photographing these animals. But tears and feeling sorry for the dogs does not create change, action does. I took action to help save these dogs. Now I am asking you to take action and make a donation to help these street dogs. Your donations give these dogs an opportunity to get off the streets, sterilized, and into loving homes.
Where is your donation money used?
“CANDi International is a are a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is run by 100% volunteers. All donations go towards our mission of saving lives by supporting our spay/neuter and adoption programs. I thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
much love, t. It is my hope, that by telling the street dogs story through imagery, it will help save them.

From what I observed, most people see these dogs starving in the streets and keep on walking...

These two really broke my heart...

Without sterilization, hundreds of puppies are born and die on the street...

Packs of street dogs are a common site...

Most of the dogs I photographed were not aggressive, but scared and hungry...

When I was photographing this little guy, I noticed he had a wound on his neck. The next day, friend and volunteer, "English John" was able to catch this dog. His neck wound was treated, he was sterilized, and released. I was so happy "English John" found this dog before his neck became infected. Thank you!!!

These next images feature Maria and Pepe. They are local volunteers who catch the street dogs, take them to be sterilized and release them. They have caught and released over 600 dogs in the past year.

Thank God for people like Maria and Pepe. They are amazing people. I thank them for giving me the opportunity to spend part of the day with them.

Maria is so patient and gentle with these dogs; it was pretty amazing to watch her in action.

We followed this dog for a few blocks before Maria was able to get near her.

School children stop to watch.

Even most of the children appeared indifferent to these poor dogs...

This beautiful girl will be sterilized and released. Some of the dogs go to local recuse groups, but there are so many that most are released back to the streets. This can change through your donations.

Sean from Stingray Pictures interviewing Pepe. I can't wait to share Sean's video footage; he is very talented!

If I could have brought one dog home, this guy would have been it. He came right up to me and put his head into my chest. This dog wanted nothing more than to be loved and saved...."English John" went back out the next day to find him and bring him in for sterilization, but to no avail. I have shed many tears for this dog. His image haunts me. I think about this dog everyday, hoping he is safe. This dog is the reason I will go back and do this clinic again. These dogs need a voice. I am so grateful for CANDi International and their heroic efforts to save these street dogs.

February 14, 2012 My own dog was rescued from the streets of Bonfil by CANDi in 2009. Seeing these photos is hard, knowing that Coco was one of these dogs. I am forever grateful to the unknown people who donated to CANDi, allowing Darci and her crew of angels to rescue Coco, get him healthy and flown to Canada where I could adopt him. Thank you Tracey for helping to spread the word about the good work that CANDi does.
